UNITED is essentially a humble effort to bring in human beings & nature together.

Site is located at Lakkidi, on the Palakkad - Ponnani state highway, facing Thiruvilwamala hill ranges. Thiruvilwamala derives its name from Malayalam phrase ‘Thiriv-illa-mala’  which means parallel hill ranges. Form of United convention centre is simple and it follows function, but the truss - less arch roofs resemble the context - hill ranges of ‘Thiruvilwamala’.

A naturally contoured site, which is simply allowed to take form of an open-air amphitheatre, becomes heart of the convention centre. Flexible, semi open, multi-purpose halls connected by an open courtyard and verandahs overlook the centrally placed amphitheatre.

Warli art on the central courtyard wall, which cover support service areas, give celebrative mood for the entire space.

Exposed brick facades and built in seats along with natural stone paving and porotherm boundary wall give it an earthy character.

Creeper partitions serve purpose as well as give thermal insulation. Orchid net facade combined with rammed earth brick walls act as buffer to protect A/C auditorium (modified existing structure) from harsh western and southern sun.

Northern glass facade provides view to hilly terrain and bring in diffused light. Terracotta jali from south facade allow hot air escape and protect activity spaces from southern sun.
